About Burntfeather
Hi I'm Fee Harding, the girl behind Burntfeather
After finishing a degree in Creative Industries I packed my bags and headed to Japan. A year later I was back in Australia, heavily inspired by Japanese fashion, which lead to Peachypan, a site selling cute accessories. I loved it but it wasn't my true love, which brings us to the beginning of Burntfeather. You see I've been drawing since a wee lass, art has always been a constant happiness in my life so it simply made sense to share it with the World. I'm often asked how the name Burntfeather came to be. It's a rather simple story, where a sweet white feather with singed edges, popped into my imagination. I love the idea that something innocent can hold darkness and so it's a theme you'll find, played out in my art, quite frequently. I guess I also view myself as a Burntfeather, cute but drawn to dark sensibilities :P I'm definitely a product of my environment. Living in Japan meant a saturation of cute culture and this, alongside, the pop culture I constantly immerse myself in, creates the basis to much of my work. I try to make my work with a certain sense of naivety and like to think my art presents itself as being light hearted with a touch of visual escapism thrown in. My inspiration/admiration list includes the likes of Australian talents, Brett Whiteley and Beci Orpin, alongside International artists such as female graff artist, Miss Van and Japanese artists, Yoshitomo Nara. My work has been shown in Japan as well as Australia. I've also been published in the 2009 Curvy publication and exhibition as well as the 2010 annuals; Design Federation and Semi Permanent 2nd edition hardcover. In 2011, I was published in the Rah Collective and the Love Is Here publications. Art to me is a super fun playground and I hope I'm still drawing, pad and pen in hand on my deathbed! Ultimately I want my art to travel the World, end up in people's home and make people happy! * The Galeries Interview |
